Website and hosting

This private website runs on a privately operated server at Surfplanet GmbH’s data centre in Cologne, Germany. Requests involve processing your IP address, the requested URL and technical HTTP data to deliver the page to your browser. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is to provide and securely operate this information service. The website cannot be delivered without the necessary connection data.

IP address, location and network

The public IP visible for your connection to this server is displayed. Location and network information are obtained by looking it up in locally stored GeoLite databases. Manually entered IPs are processed in the same way. Results are approximate. No requests are sent to ipify, ipwho.is or other external IP lookup services. MaxMind does not receive visitor IPs through these lookups. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is to provide IP information.

Browser information

The browser overview reads information including browser identification, language, time zone, screen and viewport size, and available interfaces. This information is processed locally in your browser for display and is not sent to the server by the application. Ordinary HTTP headers sent by your browser when requesting a page are separate from this. No fingerprint identifiers or usage profiles are created. The local diagnostics inform you about your browser; insofar as personal data are processed, the basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and the legitimate interest in providing this technical information.

Storage and logging

The application does not maintain a persistent history of IP lookups or browser diagnostics. Requests are processed in memory while being handled. The intended Nginx configuration disables access logs and discards this website’s error logs. To protect against excessive requests, Nginx keeps limited, temporary IP-related state in memory; this does not create a persistent browsing history. The legal basis for this protection is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and the legitimate interest in service availability. These statements concern the application and its web server, not a guarantee about logging by every network operator involved.

Cookies, language and external links

The application sets no cookies and stores no preferences in Local Storage or Session Storage. The page address /de/ or /en/ determines the language, which can be changed using the DE/EN switch. Fonts, styling and translations are served locally. External links connect to their respective providers only when clicked; those providers’ privacy notices then apply.

Contact by email

If you contact us by email, your email address, message content and delivery metadata are processed to handle your enquiry. The email service providers involved participate in delivery. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and the legitimate interest in answering your enquiry. Messages are deleted once the matter is resolved and they are no longer needed for follow-up questions, unless statutory retention obligations or necessary legal claims require otherwise.

Your rights

Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you may request access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing. You have a right to data portability where its conditions are met. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it for the future. No decisions are made solely by automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Please use the email address above for privacy enquiries.

Right to object

You may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Processing will then stop unless overriding compelling legitimate grounds apply or it is necessary for establishing, exercising or defending legal claims.

Right to lodge a complaint

You may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, particularly in the country of your habitual residence, workplace or the alleged infringement. For the operator in Lower Saxony, the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony is a point of contact.
